MythTV going mainstream on Ubuntu with Totem Plugin
As if newest GNOME release is not enough to get excited about with cool new features like better PDF support, a gnome VNC client and a centralized settings manager - now MythTV fans have something to talk about too. In GNOME 2.22 (due March 12th) Totem movie player will be getting an upgrade which will allow it to interface with MythTV directly to stream your shows.
By entering some configuration items, (backend IP address and database password) any desktop running GNOME 2.22 can browse available MythTV recordings and stream them in their native format.
GNOME 2.22 and Totem with MythTV support will be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 8.04 release - Hardy Heron - which is expected in early April. As many of you know, the Ubuntu releases tail the GNOME release cycle by a few weeks. This ensures users are on the cutting edge of Open Source Software development with a new version of Ubuntu upon each release of the GNOME desktop.

Backup Solutions
A good backup solution is essential for any production system.
In the past there were some concerns regarding the backup solutions offered by MonolithMC on our systems. To address these, MonolithMC has created a bootable, customized Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon LiveDVD which allows a user to restore their system by only answering a few quick questions and no interaction from our staff.
iso images (1.8GB) will be available for download or shipped free of charge to all our customers.
Special thanks and congratulations to the MonolithMC Linux development team for another great development.

Schedules Direct, MythTV 0.20.2 and MonolithMC v2.0
September 1st, 2007 will mark a tipping point for the Do It Yourself (DIY) PVR Community.
Starting tomorrow, Tribune Media will discontinue its free zap2it channel guide service. This service, which MythTV and many other popular software titles was dependent on, will no longer exist. To fill the void, a non-profit company called Schedules Direct has been created by several members of the PVR community. Currently, Schedules Direct provides channel guide data for $5 / month with a goal of $20 / year in the near future. Creation of this entity is a big step forward for the community by ensuring the availability of guide data and encouraging the growth of Open Source software. Congratulations to all those involved.
With the creation of Schedules Direct, a subrelease of MythTV has been announced (0.20.2) which will includes the integration of Schedules Direct along with several other features and bug fixes. More information on the release
